Yarnitty started with the most basic of all ideas in knitting- knit and purl. Those two little words are the foundation for everything we do to create. Learn these two stitches and the possibilities are endless. Two small words that open up a large door to a vibrant community, a world of creativity, and a skill you can build on for infinity. How far you go with these two stitches is up to you. The journey is yours to take and there should be no regrets along the way!
WHAT’S THE WHAT ON STACEY?
After begging my mother to teach me how to crochet at age 8, I hardly ever put down a hook. My life has revolved around pursuing my love of needlecraft. Creating has always been a part of who I am and from that early age of 8 I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the fiber arts. As a freshman in college I took a knitting course at a local yarn shop and quickly tried to gain as much knowledge as possible. I bought every technique book on the market and would often sit in the back of a lecture hall so I could get a few extra rows in. It was in Los Angeles that I finally started putting the pieces of the puzzle together and making connections that lead to my own designs.
For thirteen years I have been working in the commercial textile and knitwear industries. A commercial carpet designer for the past 12 years, I am currently a Senior Design Consultant for a Commercial Flooring Manufacturer and am using my skills in design process and trend research to concept award winning product designs. A graduate of the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in Costume Design and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Los Angeles in Textile Design, my educational background brings a unique perspective to my commercial design work. Winner of the Textile Association of Los Angeles Award (2000) for up and coming design, I lived and worked in Los Angeles for a missy knitwear manufacturer before moving into commercial carpet design at the end of 2000.
In 2010, a new job brought me to New York, where I now live in New Jersey with my husband, and soon to be baby. My passion for hand knitting always remained strong, but the move to the east coast inspired me to start publishing patterns in major knitting journals and magazines such as: Interweave Knits, Knit Simple, and Knit Now. My work can also be seen online in Petite Purls, and in collections with Shannon Okey of Cooperative Press and Soho Publishing. My love of the creative craft of knitting keeps inspiring me on a daily basis to fuel the fire of knitters everywhere with new pattern ideas.
